Jasper Downtown Revitalization Study

Business retention is an important and vital tool in economic development. In Jasper, the business community is expressing a need for a renewed focus on the downtown core. While tourists are often seen as a “given” commodity in a national park, there are challenges facing the tourism industry that are affecting businesses in the downtown core.

The original intent of this project was to understand what the downtown revitalization meant to businesses, and we hoped to accomplish this through strategic and personalized visits to businesses in the downtown core. COVID-19 restrictions changed this project, and we could not access the face-to-face plan as CFWY intended. Instead, surveys targeted to businesses and residents in fall 2020 and winter 2021 allowed us to capture as much information as possible with the original intention of the project in mind.
